Stressful Life, Meaningful Life

I often look at stress as a negative thing, an indicator that I’m overworked or out of balance or mismanaging my priorities. And stress can be an indicator of these things, but Kelly McGonigal reminds me that a meaningful life is also a stressful life. It means something you care about is at stake.

I don’t want to seek out stress simply for the sake of vicariously discovering meaning. But when I am feeling stress, I want it to prompt me to step back and look at my life with a mindset of meaning, seeing more than the shortsighted stress and my newest patch of grey hairs. Instead I want to notice the broader scope of things I care about as I make things that matter.
