Save Me

A reflection on Psalm 71:

Save me. Psalm 71 cries out, “God, where are you?”

It is the cry of the life turned upside down or the unwitting victim of tragedy. God, where are you? It’s a familiar plea. I’m looking for you, searching for you, watching for you, waiting for you. This is the moment. This is the crisis. Are you here?

And in the moment when her world caved in the psalmist realized there was no need to wait for God to ride in as rescuer. God was there, walking beside her, every day of her life, in youth through old age, the God of all life. And she had never been alone.
