The Robots that Rule Us

The clock tower was once a visible structure and central feature of any community. The erection of this phallus idol allowed, or perhaps demanded, that the rhythms of daily life be dictated by machine.

The clock tower literally elevated and metaphorically amplified time’s authority over us. We no longer control our schedule but rather our schedule, perfectly synchronized to the divine canon of the clock, control us.

We have created these robots, elevating them in our societies and succumbing to their rule in our lives.
