A prophet is a person who feels fiercely. Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel reminds us that “the prophet’s word is a scream in the night.” This is the person whose heart beats with the heartbeat of God, who feels the pain in the world around them and weeps on God’s behalf.
In a world that lives the fairy tale of isolation the prophet feels the grandeur of divine presence, walking through the park enamored by the beauty and miracle of the trees.
One does not have to walk on water to experience a miracle. Walking on this earth, noticing each step, is a miracle enough.
May we discover the prophet within each of us and the miracles all around.
