Acting and Performing

There is a difference between acting and performing. Acting is when you pretend to be someone else for a specific audience and context. Performing is when you be who you are. One is a false self while the other is true.

The performative self is not a false self; it is not an act. It is you being you in relation to the specific context you find yourself in. From sermons to songs to monologues to meeting new people, I want to perform, to be who I am wherever I find myself.

Life is performance but it does not have to be an act.
