Living From the Neck Up

Most of my life is lived from the neck up. But most of my body makes up the five and a half feet below.

When I treat my body like it’s just a vehicle for my brain I ignore my literal and metaphorical heart and gut. I avoid my feelings and intuition, unconsciously giving precedence to thinking over all else.

But to be mindful is to be present with all of me, and presence is more than cognitive thought. I want to be embodied and alive rather than decapitated and walking dead.
