Nap Time

When I was in high school I worked as a daycare provider. Most days I was with the school aged kids, playing monopoly, folding paper airplanes, or teaching them to play capture the flag.

But once in a while I would spend the day with the toddlers. In some ways the energy increases with this age group but it’s balanced by the sacred space that is “nap time.” No matter how much they whined or complained, trying to convince me they didn’t need it, they would almost always end up collapsed on a mat, a slow and sleepy breathing for an hour or more.

The secret that we too quickly forget as we grow up is that no matter how much I try and convince myself to go, go, go, my body knows best and needs the slow and steady breathing that comes with an afternoon nap.
