I’m Praying For It To Matter

In twelve minutes a jury decided that Marissa Alexander’s life didn’t matter, that her abuser could get away with it, that she who shot a warning could be convicted for twenty years and now maybe sixty.

Oh, when black lives matter, when black women’s lives matter, when people on the margin’s lives matter, our lives are richer.

I’m praying for it to count. I’m praying for it to matter.
