Advent is about waiting, about anticipating, about looking forward to what’s about to happen.
The Psalm for the first week of Advent, Psalm 25, reminds us that at times we might wait for God all day long. I don’t know about you, but I don’t always have the patience for this kind of waiting.
I know what I want and I want it now. I see a fragmented and fractured world and I want to do something about it. I’m tired of waiting all day long. I’m ready to start rehearsing the reign of God right here and right now.
And so what do I do when I’m stuck waiting all day long? I hope. I don’t wish. I don’t dream. I hope, with expectation and desire, preparing myself for this brave new world that we’ve desperately been waiting for.
