A Merry-Go-Round

Moses led the Exodus from Egypt. Joshua walked around Jericho and into the land promised to Abraham. Which brings us to Judges, a merry-go-round of tribal leaders and guerrilla warfare, of religious diversity, idolatry, and reform. From Ehud to Gideon to Samson to Deborah and more, these judges led the people and united the tribes, casting down idols and vanquishing enemies in a single blow.

Only it never lasts. The idols resurrect and the enemies return. Peace becomes chaos becomes peace becomes chaos. This merry-go-round continues, leaving us dizzy and unsure of what’s to come and who will lead us.

  1. What do you remember about the book of Judges?
  2. Where do you see the repetitive cycle of peace and chaos in our world?
