If You Are Silent

A reflection on Psalm 28:

“If you are silent.”

That’s the fear, isn’t it? That we’ll find ourselves stuck in the middle of this shit show called life, we’ll cry out the to God we’ve been told will never leave us nor forsake us, and then we’ll hear nothing but an eternal dial tone.

If you are silent. If you aren’t available. If you aren’t there. If you don’t exist.

What do we do when the gods we’ve believed in turn out to be nothing more than the object of our own desire, offering us the silent treatment in the exact moment when we needed them most?
