At the deepest level, well intentioned religion goes wrong in response to mystery, unknowing, and insecurity. Because you can’t love God by making God the answer to your problems.
God isn’t a magic pill on Google Ads that will make you skinny or happy or feel loved or find the right person or job or avoid suffering or even know that there’s a God. Because God’s not a genie and God doesn’t work for you.
God’s story is not certainty and satisfaction and security but love and faith in an uncertain world.
