I am buying a clergy robe that I might never get to use.
Because of the widespread ignorance about nonbinary identities I do not know if there is a church in my denomination that will call a person who identifies as neither male nor female as their pastor.
Sometimes it seems easier to run back in the closet but if I am not out, I am contributing to that ignorance, not being a pastor to all of us who wonder if there’s a place for us in God’s kingdom.
So if nothing else, this robe will be a symbol of hope for the time when that kingdom will come on earth.
