The Invention of the Future

The Invention of the Future

The invention of the clock was the invention of the future, the ability to anticipate what was coming and precisely how soon it would get here. While the clock appears to tell us exactly what present moment we inhabit, actually reminds us of the static moments before and behind us, our future and our history forever immortalized in schedule and record.

The perpetual present is not static but fluid, always moving and impossible to pin down. And so with the invention of the clock came the invention of time and with the invention of time came the invention of the past and the future, all which fools us into thinking we are living in the present when really we are living somewhere else.
