An Echo Chamber of Ourselves

Facebook has developed a brilliant algorithm to save us from our poor Aunt Sally who can’t help but post pictures of her cat and our crazy Uncle Jerry. It’s called the Like button.

By liking something, Facebook learns over time the things we want to see and other things we do not. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that except the fact that eventually we only see the things that affirm the perspective we hold. Facebook becomes an echo chamber of ourselves, and boy do we love our own voice.

So what does your news feed look like? Maybe the first step in growth is liking something different.
