Dreams For Us All

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”

I have old dreams
to know a life of abundance
to experience community built on love
and to serve with a spirit of hope

But as my dreams have become reality,
I know that my dreams have been
watered with the sweat of the poor
constructed with nails of injustice
and supported by the labor of the suffering.

The dreams I’ve known have been nightmares lived by another

So I now must stay awake to new dreams
where the poor share in abundance
where community is built on justice
and where friend, enemy, stranger and neighbor serve together in hope.

New dreams, dreams for us all.
