Radical Difference

When I dream about inhabiting the world in 2016, I think about the politics of radical difference.

Don’t mishear me. I do not mean “diversity” because “diversity” is just a code word for tolerance. I mean a world that is rooted in the politics of radical difference, a world and politics that illustrates disparate voices and bodies and relationships entangled in a sacred togetherness. This doesn’t materialize easily. It takes super hard work to live into a politics of radical difference, but I believe it is possible if we take our own differences we embody seriously and live into the future of those differences.

2016 could look really different if we can mobilize our dreams of difference, not dreams of tolerance, but real dreams where we eradicate complacency and lean into a politics of radical difference.

  1. In your own words, what’s the difference between diversity and radical difference?
  2. What can you do to eradicate complacency?
