Create on Demand

Create on Demand

Most people don’t have the luxury of relaxing beneath a tree, waiting for an apple of inspiration to drop. We are forced to produce new ideas, each one expected to outshine the last. This “create on demand” is both exciting and exhausting. The pressure of needing new ideas can be exactly what’s necessary to produce them. But at the same time, the expectation of every new idea being you best idea is overwhelming, not to mention impossible. What we need is a culture of creativity rather than create on demand.

  • Then agency over free-lance? Community over individual?

From my experience all of these can perpetuate or stifle a culture of creativity. I’ve been a part of agencies and communities that do “culture of creativity” wonderfully. And I’ve also seen them stifle it and force a rigid “create on demand.”

      Your thoughts?

  • Maybe it’s not culture over demand but exploration over expectation. To embrace this ‘creative culture’ we have to move away from a hierarchal framework (one idea being ‘better than another’ to a egalitarian one (where we find beauty in all ideas, projects and creation). Sure some might be more skilled than others but no one ever compares a 3 year olds art to that of DaVinci and reminds them that it’s not good enough.
