A Point Of View

The church as a cloud reminds us to be aware of our point of view. We are often warned, ideologically speaking, not to have our head in the clouds but rather to keep our feet on the ground.

And to you, archetypal ideological pessimist, I declare that we can and we must do both. We must keep our head in the clouds, seeing what God is calling us to see, and we must keep our feet on the ground, doing what God is calling us to do.

With our head in the clouds we catch a necessary point of view, seeing the ordinary with a little something extra, the monotonous corn field of Iowa becoming a beautiful canvas as you fly overhead.

With our feet on the ground we stop bickering about the color of the carpet or the typeface in the worship bulletin and we do the things that actually matter.

So live with your head in the clouds and your feet on the ground. And eliminate everything in between.
