Stop and Breathe

Every day at 11 o’clock I receive a text message with three simple words: “Stop and breathe.”

Whether I’m walking across the Village or sitting in a meeting or writing an email or reading a book, this simple and essential phrase consistently reminds me to step away from the current racing through my mind and find myself in my body, my feet rooted to the ground beneath me and my breath constantly sustaining me, whether I am aware of it or not.

Stop and breathe. Walk a little slower. Enjoy a meal a little longer. Drink a glass of water and realize exactly what you are doing.

This world and this life is a gift. Don’t rush through it.
