This Is Boring

How did “quiet and still” become our highest priority for children during a worship service? How did “quiet and still” become our highest priority for adults? This world is a vibrant mix of turmoil, joy, suffering, and fascination. Maybe we need to spend some time shouting or jumping up and down or playing games or singing songs or crying out. And we can start by declaring, “THIS IS BORING” whenever the liturgy does not match the intensity that we experience in this life.

  1. Why do we demand that children be quiet and still?
  2. What would it look like for a liturgy to match the intensity that we experience in life.
