God is pissed.
And it’s not so surprising when God is pissed off at Damascus, Gaza, Edom, Ammon, Moab. You know, those people.
But God’s anger, carried by Amos, turns out to be directed at Israel, God’s own people – maybe…at us? “Even your sacrifices and your holy days, the things you claim to do for me – I’m not interested. Not when you oppress the poor and exploit those in need.”
So what does God want? “Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living.”
Until then, expect exile.
- Where do you see the oppression of the poor and the exploitation of those in need?
- In your own words, what does God want?
